World Heritage Week: All tourists will get free entry to the Archaeological Survey of India monuments from 19th November to 25th November 2022 to mark the beginning of World Heritage Week. Cultural activities and awareness programs will also be organized at several monuments during World Heritage Week. Also during this week children will be taken for painting competitions and visits to historical buildings in many schools.

The Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India has ordered that on the occasion of World Heritage Week, there will be no entry fee for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and many other archaeological monuments or historical sites included in the world heritage sites from today Saturday till 25 November. . He told that there is free entry to Taj Mahal but a ticket of Rs 200 will have to be taken to visit the main mausoleum of Taj Mahal.

Know what is a World Heritage Site

Sites of cultural or physical importance listed by UNESCO are known as World Heritage Sites. Sites are designated as being of “outstanding universal value” under the Convention regarding the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage 1972. India has a total of 40 World Heritage Sites, including 32 cultural, 7 natural, and one mixed site. To this has been added recently a Harappan city of Dholavira. UNESCO started the World Heritage Convention in 1972. At present, India includes 3691 monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India, out of which a maximum of 745 monuments are in Uttar Pradesh. Out of all these historical sites, 143 monuments require a ticket for entry.

Explain that every year during World Heritage Week from 19 to 25 November, tourists are given free entry to all the monuments.
