CBSE has launched the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat)

Nipun BharatCBSE Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) mission in line with NIPUN BHARAT Guidelines in CBSE Schools.

The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, has launched the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat), for ensuring that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.

The ability to read and write, and perform basic operations with numbers, is a necessary foundation and an indispensable prerequisite for all future schooling and lifelong learning. The National Education Policy 2020 recommends, “The highest priority of the education system will be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025. The rest of this Policy will become relevant for our students only if this most basic learning requirement (i.e., reading, writing, and arithmetic at the foundational level) is first achieved.”

NEP 2020

For the implementation of NIPUN BHARAT in its schools, CBSE in association with Central Square Foundation has launched the Professional Development Course on FLN for the capacity building of teachers. The course has been designed with an aim to bridge the learning gap in early grades, develop the capacity of teachers to understand concepts in the FLN domain and equip them with tools and resources to help them in the classrooms.
